Breast Reconstruction
Breast Reconstruction is a surgical procedure to recreate the breast that has been removed due to cancer or other disease. The reconstructed breast can mirror the form and appearance of a natural breast.
Candidates include women who have had a mastectomy or who will be having a mastectomy. A breast reconstruction which is performed at the time of mastectomy is called immediate breast reconstruction. This may also be performed months or years after mastectomy.
There are different procedures, but mainly two classes. One technique combines skin expansion and the subsequent insertion of an implant. The other uses living tissue taken from other parts of the body, such as the abdomen, back, hips, thighs and buttocks.
Dr. Tehrani is especially trained in and prefers the use of patients own tissues for example from the abdomen to rebuild the breast (TRAM flap) whenever possible.
