Restylane
What is Restylane?
Restylane is a an FDA-approved safe and natural cosmetic injectable that restores volume and fullness to the skin to correct facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds.
Restylane is the made of non-animal-based hyaluronic acid, a natural substance that already exists in the human body and gradually decreases as we age. The hyaluronic acid in Restylane is a colorless crystal gel called Non-Animal Stabilized Hyaluronic Acid, or NASHA, in short. NASHA is completely compatible with human hyaluronic acid. Restylane maintains its shape using the body’s own moisture. The hyaluronic acid in Restylane is hydrophilic or “water loving.” The ability of hyaluronic acid to bind to water is what make the results of the Restylane treatment long lasting.
Restylane treatment may be used to treat facial lines and wrinkles, to enhance the lips, and to improve the appearance of the area beneath the eyes. Restylane creates the appearance of fullness and increases your skin’s elasticity in a procedure that last only a few minutes.
Who is a candidate for Restylane?
Restylane treatment is a very popular procedure – there have been more than 10 million treatments in more than 65 countries around the world. A good candidate for a Restylane treatment are who individuals are physically healthy, have realistic expectation, and are interested in improving the signs of aging on their facial skin. Both men and women can benefit from the Restylane treatment and feel better and more confident about their appearance.
The Restylane Treatment
The Restylane treatment is an outpatient procedure. The Restylane cosmetic injectable gel is injected using a fine needle. It is injected into the skin below the wrinkles and it lifts the wrinkle out to the desired position. When lip enhancements are made, Restylane is injected directly into and around the lip. Topical or local anesthetic is usually used as an anesthetic, but anesthesia is not necessary. The Restylane treatment only takes about 30 minutes to perform.
Once injected, the gel integrates into the dermis and binds water. The results if the Restylane treatment are immediate and clearly visible. Over time, Restylane is gradually reabsorbed into the skin without a trace. The results of the Restylane treatment will depend on your age or the severity of the wrinkles in the area being treated. Usually, they last around 6-8 months, or up to a year at the most. For this reason, follow up treatments are needed to maintain your results at 6 to 12 month intervals.
