After you’ve had your BBL (Brazilian Butt Lift) procedure with your New York Plastic Surgeon, the days and weeks that follow and what actions you take can and will directly affect your results. All of this can have a large impact on how much of the fat that’s been injected into your buttocks survives.
Fat transfers have a limited survival rate. And the percentage that does survive depends on a number of variables: how much of the volume was transferred, the tightness and elasticity of the skin in the area, and, of course, how you as the patient treat your BBL recovery. Below are 10 of the best ways you can maximize the results of your Brazilian Butt Lift:
#1 – Don’t Smoke
Many patients question if they can smoke after their BBL surgery. The simple answer is no. It’s highly recommended that you avoid all manner of smoking following your surgery. That means avoiding even second-hand smoke. Smoke affects the oxygen and nutrient flow to the bloodstream and can interfere with your body’s ability to heal.
#2 – Don’t Drive
Driving post-surgery should be avoided for a minimum of 6 to 8 weeks. The newly transferred fat can be crushed, suffocating the fat cells.
#3 – Avoid Sitting on Your Buttocks
As hard as it is to avoid sitting, directly putting pressure on your buttocks should be prevented for a minimum of 3 to 4 weeks following your surgery. Sitting should only be done using a special Brazilian Butt Lift Pillow or a regular-sized towel. A BBL Pillow provides a small cushion that can nestle under your lower thighs to relieve pressure off of the buttocks when you have to directly sit.
If you need to use a towel, roll it up into a cylindrical shape and place it beneath your thighs. This will help keep the weight off your buttocks. Take special care to not cut off the blood supply to your legs and buttocks.
#4 – Hydrate Your Body
Drink fluids in significant quantities that can hydrate your body with sufficient amounts of essential electrolytes, salts, and minerals. These components can help your body retain water, and aid in a quicker recovery. Himalayan salt is a mineral that works very well and can be added to your daily water intake. Other drinks that can help are Gatorade, Powerade, or Smart Water. Follow this routine for the first 8 weeks of your recovery.
#5 – Eat Healthy
Nutrient-heavy foods containing essential minerals and vitamins should be a part of your diet to provide more support during recovery. Include foods that contain healthy fats such as salmon, avocados, grass-fed butter, extra virgin olive oil, coconut oil, and walnuts.
#6 – Sleep Correctly
The best way to sleep while recovering from your Brazilian Butt Lift fat transfer is on your stomach. If you can make sure that you won’t end up on your back, side position sleeping is okay. Do not sleep on your buttocks or back at all during your recovery, and refrain from backside sleeping for at least 2 months post-surgery.
#7 – Maintain Weight Stability
After undergoing a BBL procedure, any weight loss in the buttocks should be in proportion to weight loss throughout your body. Weight fluctuation can negatively affect your Brazilian Butt Lift results. 5 pounds or so of weight fluctuation isn’t considered a significant change, but, any substantial weight loss can enable the fat to gather in areas that will pose new problems.
#8 – Choose the correct Attire
While you’ll be prescribed appropriate BBL shaping garments following your surgical procedure, you will need to choose and wear clothing that’s supportive of the recovery you’re going through. You can kill the cells of newly transferred fat quickly by wearing the wrong type of garment that squeezes it, so don’t wear clothing that’s too tight or restrictive as you heal.
#9 – Suspend Exercise for about 8 Weeks
For the first 2 months following your BBL procedure, refrain from engaging in any strenuous activity that may cause fat cells to be burned off, such as using stationary bikes or keg sleds. These activities can exert pressure, compression, or trauma to the buttocks. Instead, light walks can be helpful so that you can manage your calorie burn rate, along with elliptical or hack squat machines.
#10 – Watch for signs of Infection
Signs of infection while you’re recovering are a red flag that should be dealt with immediately by contacting your Plastic Surgeon. Be on the lookout for any excessive swelling and/or redness. Less common but equally serious are symptoms that can indicate infection include an unpleasant odor oozing from the wound, fever, swollen glands, or pain that steadily increases.
If diet and exercise haven’t provided you with the kind of bottom you want, a Brazilian Butt Lift may be worth considering. Both women and men can add volume and roundness to flat or small bottoms to enjoy a more voluptuous and perky profile.
